minimal posters

inspired by other designers such as olly moss and the like, i decided to try my hand at minimal posters, my initial concept was for a jurrasic park poster but as it turns out that was my least favourite one, needless to say i wont be posting that image just yet, but here are the four others that i came up with. this is the first time ive posted any of my own work on here and i dont want it to be the last so let me know what you think but be nice.

and now for my personal favourite

if anyone could translate it and tell me more about the project please give me a shout

el jefe design

a couple of weeks ago, we went to see the gaslight anthem on a sunny thursday manchester evening, they where awesome and played the longest encore i have ever heard, 8 songs in total i think, but possibly more including baba o'riley by the who. while the at the merch stall we saw this poster.

2 colour screen printed and running on full awesome, this was a definate purchase, after a small incident with the merch man in which jane threatened him that if he sold out of them very bad things would happen to him, we decided to buy and risk creasing. all turned out well and this is now framed and in pride of place on the wall, on the bottom of the poster is a little note to where the poster was created, el jefe design

turns out el jefe design is a brilliant design agency, covering all the bases that agencies do but their selection of posters is truely incredible, they did a whole selection of posters for gaslight and brian fallon, some for dinosaur jr, some for the black lips, henry rollins and many more. so without more of my waffling, heres some artwork.

think youll agree these are pretty impressive, i could literally just keep inserting images until i have copied pretty much the entire site, but why dont you take a click over to the web site here and have a look for yourself.

thank you

p.s. sorry for the late post

youve got mail

when i was young the act of receiving something in the mail was met with excitement and optimism, now as i grow older its becoming more of a chore when most mornings im met with bank statements and bills, but an artist and illustrator by the name jainai jeffries has started a fight back against the monotony of collecting your morning post with these beautiful creations.

each one hand drawn and lovingly created in incredible detail to bring something special back into receiving mail.

in an age where digital media is speeding everything up, where everything you create can be visible to the world in seconds, its amazing to see someone take a step backwards and take the time to create something that initially is intended to be viewed by a select number of people. ironically though, now you will all see them via the exact engine that is killing the art of letter writing.

each of the images should link through to the artists deviantart profile, if it doesn't here is the link
and here is the link to their portfolio
and here is the link to their blog

on a side note if you think that digital media is taking over the world at an alarming rate and would like to take a look back, you might want to check out a friends site called letters of note, here, its a collection of fascinating letters, postcards, telegrams, faxes and memos. most revealing a different side to celebrities and public figures.

hope you enjoyed this post, maybe you should leave a comment, or even send me a letter.

star wars disney

the star wars weekends at disney have become an annual event occuring between may and june and while this might seem like the most money hungry way to rinse a franchise even more, i cant stop the inner child in myself wanting to be part of them, especially this year, the 30th anniversary of empire strikes back when, to mark this event, one of the special guests at the weekend with be lando clarissian!  and to accompany this annual event, they uaually produce some cool as hell advertising.

now its unclear as to where these images crop up, the 2006-2007 posters along with the 2010 posters claim to be public advertising, mainly found in airports, wheras the 2009 posters are supposedly backstage posters to remind staff of the up coming events. either way they are all awesome, all depicting star wars characters or vehicles in situations you might find yourself in during your journey to or time spent at the theme park.
so here they are, i think i got them all, but if you find any that i havent please let me know, i couldnt find any for 2008.

2010

2009

  2007

2006

hope you enjoy these as much as did, disney have an offical page for the weekends here and sorry for the late post, ill try not to let it happen again.
