whats my name

recently ive seen a couple of these images crop up at various places on the internets and thought they where brilliant. created by a collective who go by the name dorothy, they describe themselves as a group of like minded individuals working on unlike minded ideas. 

they've created a series of paintings of famous logos but removed the type to leave just iconic graphic forms. its interesting to note how much a logo is implanted in our brain that we can still read the logo without there being any text. check out these, we'll start with one that's very dear to me

its also interesting to note, in only one of these paintings the graphic element represents the main product of the company, the rest of them show the undeniable power of a strong brand and / or strong marketing or both. i mean come on, a red star with a white stroke on a green square and all of a sudden you think beer, its kinda crazy when you think about it.

if i worked at a film studio and a pitch came through my door looking like this, these people would get the biggest bag of money anyone has ever seen, amazing work

its actually a project to create corporate stationery design for a german crime and horror channel, but its just brilliant.

olly moss - star wars reimagined

he's only gone and done it again

olly moss has redesigned the original trilogy of star wars posters and has once again created something incredible, it would appear this man can do no wrong; take a look at these beauties.

when handling something as cherished and adored as the star wars franchise, it would be very easy for some people to tear into olly for whatever reason, but it would appear that these posters are loved by star wars fans and non star wars fans the world over.

"It was so intimidating!" olly told Wired.com in an e-mail interview. "There is such a wealth of greatStar Wars art out there already, from paid professionals and from enthusiastic fans. I suppose my main aim was to make a set of Star Wars posters that were a little different from what people are used to seeing from the franchise, but still retained that essential Star Wars feel. I started by re-watching the original movies with a sketchbook on my lap, and just sort of went from there."

400 of each of these posters have been officially printed and were on sale for $50 each, however the only place you'll probably find these now - if you're lucky - is ebay. if you find any please let me know, i'd probably sell a lung to get hold of these.

pavel sidorenko has found a brilliant use for his old vinyl collection, he laser cuts them into awesome designs and creates stunning wall clocks out of them, check them out, ill start with my favourite.

each one is a masterpiece and there are quite a few to choose from. you can buy them over at his site and are very reasonably priced between 30 and 40 euros.

apparently part of this estonians idea is to create functional and playful products that retain there simplicity, that interact with the space and the user, aim achieved as far as im concerned. these things are brilliant! now i can name a few people that i know that would say you shouldn't do this to a vinyl record and that you should always keep hold of them just in case, but lets face its, what else are you going to do with the remix vinyl of jump by kris kros or that bros album you havent listened to for 2o years

inspiration pad

the inspiration pad has taken a simple object and given it a little imagination. created by an artist from belgium called marc thomasset this is just brilliant. for those moments when you need a little inspirational help, this may be exactly what you have been looking for

one big tank

if you have the joy of stepping into the hotel radisson blu in berlin at any point you would be awe struck by what confronted you, this little beauty..

this my friends is the largest cylindrical aquarium ever built and its smack bang in the centre of the hotel, know as an aquadom it is 25m tall and contains about 900,000l of seawater and around 2600 fish of 56 species, and is now very high up on my places to go list.

there is a slow elevator ride in the centre of the aquarium which would appear to give you ample time to photograph the people swimming around the tank, if that's their job, i want to know what the job title is and where i can apply.

if anyone has had the pleasure of visiting this place feel free to leave a comment or link through to your pictures it would be great to see more images, as there doesn't appear to be that many online, although some of the ones in peoples flickr accounts are brilliant, as seen here.

el jefe design

a couple of weeks ago, we went to see the gaslight anthem on a sunny thursday manchester evening, they where awesome and played the longest encore i have ever heard, 8 songs in total i think, but possibly more including baba o'riley by the who. while the at the merch stall we saw this poster.

2 colour screen printed and running on full awesome, this was a definate purchase, after a small incident with the merch man in which jane threatened him that if he sold out of them very bad things would happen to him, we decided to buy and risk creasing. all turned out well and this is now framed and in pride of place on the wall, on the bottom of the poster is a little note to where the poster was created, el jefe design

turns out el jefe design is a brilliant design agency, covering all the bases that agencies do but their selection of posters is truely incredible, they did a whole selection of posters for gaslight and brian fallon, some for dinosaur jr, some for the black lips, henry rollins and many more. so without more of my waffling, heres some artwork.

think youll agree these are pretty impressive, i could literally just keep inserting images until i have copied pretty much the entire site, but why dont you take a click over to the web site here and have a look for yourself.
