whats my name

recently ive seen a couple of these images crop up at various places on the internets and thought they where brilliant. created by a collective who go by the name dorothy, they describe themselves as a group of like minded individuals working on unlike minded ideas.

they've created a series of paintings of famous logos but removed the type to leave just iconic graphic forms. its interesting to note how much a logo is implanted in our brain that we can still read the logo without there being any text. check out these, we'll start with one that's very dear to me

its also interesting to note, in only one of these paintings the graphic element represents the main product of the company, the rest of them show the undeniable power of a strong brand and / or strong marketing or both. i mean come on, a red star with a white stroke on a green square and all of a sudden you think beer, its kinda crazy when you think about it.
how many can you recognise?

i highly recommend you visit dorothy here, they have some amazing stuff on their site.

bp gets a makeover

due to the recent small slip up bp have experienced due to a small oil spillage, greenpeace have taken it upon themselves to run a competition to update the green and yellow logo to something more apt.

here are some of the logos that have been submitted, some are actually quite impressive, not that a company would ever want these logos as something representative of their company, but there has been some serious time spent on some of these.

the competition is running in three categories, student/designer, public and finally the under 18s, the response to this competition seems to be incredible with over 500 logos being submitted so far

the winning logo is to be used by greenpeace as part of their international campaign against the oil company. so why not head over to the site here or the flickr group here and see what you think, maybe even submit something.

logorama

if you havent seen this yet, then you are in for a massive treat. logorama is a 16min all action animation film written and directed by h5, a french graphics and animation studio, the film won the academy award for the best animated short film, the outstanding thing is this film is created using only logos.

this multi award winning short is truely incredible, full of chase scenes, bad language, funny characters and over 2500 logos, the action literally never stops. couple that with the name the logo game that you cant avoid playing and its 16 mins of your life that is time very well spent.

after watching this movie whole at least 3 times im still seeing different things everytime, the pink floyd the wall logo on the wall of the diner is awesome and fido dido taking some serious pain never fails to crack me up.

take a look and see how many you can spot.
