olly moss - star wars reimagined

he's only gone and done it again
olly moss has redesigned the original trilogy of star wars posters and has once again created something incredible, it would appear this man can do no wrong; take a look at these beauties.
when handling something as cherished and adored as the star wars franchise, it would be very easy for some people to tear into olly for whatever reason, but it would appear that these posters are loved by star wars fans and non star wars fans the world over.
"It was so intimidating!" olly told Wired.com in an e-mail interview. "There is such a wealth of greatStar Wars art out there already, from paid professionals and from enthusiastic fans. I suppose my main aim was to make a set of Star Wars posters that were a little different from what people are used to seeing from the franchise, but still retained that essential Star Wars feel. I started by re-watching the original movies with a sketchbook on my lap, and just sort of went from there."
400 of each of these posters have been officially printed and were on sale for $50 each, however the only place you'll probably find these now - if you're lucky - is ebay. if you find any please let me know, i'd probably sell a lung to get hold of these.

feel free to check out the rest of olly's awesome work at his website here

"If you're as big a nerd as I am, you just can't say no to Star Wars"

logorama

if you havent seen this yet, then you are in for a massive treat. logorama is a 16min all action animation film written and directed by h5, a french graphics and animation studio, the film won the academy award for the best animated short film, the outstanding thing is this film is created using only logos.

this multi award winning short is truely incredible, full of chase scenes, bad language, funny characters and over 2500 logos, the action literally never stops. couple that with the name the logo game that you cant avoid playing and its 16 mins of your life that is time very well spent.

after watching this movie whole at least 3 times im still seeing different things everytime, the pink floyd the wall logo on the wall of the diner is awesome and fido dido taking some serious pain never fails to crack me up.

take a look and see how many you can spot.

heres a link to logorama site

20th century fox is 75

this year sees 20th century fox celebrating its 75th birthday, and to mark this occaision they are rereleasing many of their movies in full blu ray awesomeness, to accompany this they have created 8 logo altered posters which you can get hold of when you buy the anniversary edition blu ray.

the posters feature iconic images taken from alien, butch cassidy and the sundance kid, the day the earth stood still, gentlemen prefer blondes, ice age, independence day, patton and walk the line. these posters are just brilliant, i would have probably chosen a few different ones if i was making them but all in all i think they are great choices and work so well. good job well done. please send me them all right now these are man cave gold.

they have created a specific webiste for the anniversary here where you can win $75000, blu rays and poster but i think its only for the american market, but go check it out anyway.

olly moss: red, black and retro

while roaming around the vast internets you sometimes stumble on a complete gem, being a graphic designer alot of times i end up spending hours scolling through portfolios and galleries of other designers usually with my jaw wide open thinking why the hell didnt i think of that. this was one of those times.

olly moss is a graphic designer and illustrator born in the uk 1987, his films in black and red series and his retro video game covers are what caught my eye initially.  with his black and reds he creates movie posters using... black and red, pulling a single iconic element out of the film and recreating it using bold solid imagery and negative space

and then we have his retro video game covers, done using, once again solid colours and clever imagery all with a retro twist heading.

the greatness behind these pieces of art is that they are based on something you could have looked at 1000 times or more, its the simplicity of them. much more can be found at his website here or at his flickr page here.
to wet your appetite even more hers a few more of pieces from his site. enjoy.
